August 10th may very well be one of Fido’s favorite days: it’s Spoil Your Dog Day! Of course, dogs deserve to be spoiled every day. Their loyalty, companionship, devotion, and intelligence make them extraordinary animal companions. Here, a Chesapeake, VA vet lists some fun ways to pamper your furry bff on his special day.
Man’s Best Friend never gets tired of sampling snacks. Store-bought treats are of course fine, but if you really want to pamper your pooch, try making him something. There are plenty of recipes online! You may find that you like being able to customize your canine friend’s treats this way. Just stick with things that are safe for dogs. Ask your vet for more information.
Toys are also a great way to get that tail wagging. Different types of playthings serve different purposes for dogs. Puzzle toys are a great way to keep Fido amused while you’re out at work, while squeaky toys let him indulge his inner wolf by pretending to ‘hunt’ critters. Comfort toys, on the other paw, are good to snuggle up with. Pick up a few different things for your four-legged buddy.
This one may very well fall under the category of gifts that keep on giving. If your canine pal hasn’t finished his petucation yet, sign him up for doggy obedience classes. You’ll both benefit from having better communication and a smoother relationship!
Fido really does appreciate life’s simpler pleasures, such as comfy beds. If your pup’s current bed is looking a bit squashed, get him a new one. Opt for something with a removable cover.
If you have an outdoor spot for your furry buddy, consider making that more dog-friendly. A doghouse is sure to get that cute tail going! Your canine buddy may also enjoy a kiddie pool, or perhaps a sandbox to bury treasures in. A pet fountain is another great choice.
We know, Fido wouldn’t be very excited about going to the groomer. However, your pooch will definitely look and feel better with a soft, clean coat. Take him to a park or dog-friendly café after, and let him enjoy that salon-fresh feeling. (Tip: this is a great time for a doggy photo session!)
