We’re just about a week away from the official start of autumn. Kitties often get quite frisky at this time of year. After spending most of the summer lounging around and trying to stay cool, Fluffy tends to get a bit silly and playful as the weather cools. Here, a Virginia Beach, VA vet lists some of the things your feline buddy may be up to over the next few months.
Believe it or not, cats sleep even more than usual when it’s cold and/or dreary out. (To be fair, we can’t exactly blame them: rainy autumn days are great napping weather.) Your furball will likely start to seek out warm, cozy spots to curl up in. You might find her snoozing near a heating vent, or snuggled up under your blankets. Offer her lots of warm, cozy spots to curl up in.
This is a peak shedding time. Fluffy may lose extra hair as she changes into her winter coat. Brushing her regularly will help keep the extra fur from getting stuck to everything.
At this time of year, many wild animals—including little ones, like mice—are looking for spots to hunker down for winter. If you let your furry friend go outdoors, she may bring you quite a few presents. This is one reason we recommend keeping cats indoors. Fluffy is simply much safer staying inside, where she is safe from things like weather, traffic, and wild animals.
Cats love dozing off in warm, bright spots. You may find Fluffy adjusting her schedule a bit so that she can spend as much time as possible in her favorite sunbeam.
One of the best things about our feline friends is the fact that they are so playful. Prepare for Fluffy to have occasional rounds of zoomies, and/or randomly sprint across the room. Get your pet some fun new toys to keep her entertained.
Fall is also a great time to curl up with a great book. Or, in Fluffy’s case, curl up on top of a great book.
Those shorter days and cooler temperatures mean that many people switch to indoor pastimes, like watching TV. Your feline buddy may spend more time than usual snuggled up on your lap.
