7 Ways To Keep Fido Healthy

July 1, 2022
Dogs are precious gifts: their loyalty, devotion, intelligence, and companionship are truly amazing. Fido has certainly earned the title of Man’s Best Friend! While we all know that treats and belly rubs please our canine companions, keeping your pet in good shape entails much more than that. A Virginia Beach, VA veterinarian goes over some key aspects of this below.

Good Food

Offer Fido high-quality, nourishing food, one that’s appropriate to his age, size, weight, health, and lifestyle. A Pomeranian puppy has very different needs than a senior German Shepherd! Just don’t overfeed your furry pal: obesity is just as bad for dogs as it is for us!

Veterinary Care

Proper veterinary care can actually prevent many issues, such as parasites and disease. Exams can also help identify any issues Fido may be developing. Early diagnosis and treatment are always beneficial. Keep up with those appointments!

Spay/Neuter

Spaying and neutering is of course crucial for preventing unwanted litters! However, pets that have been fixed also tend to be healthier, as they are protected from many different illnesses. Ask your vet for more information.

Proper Grooming

Keeping your canine buddy’s fur clean and soft will go a long way towards helping him both look and feel great. Some dogs need regular baths, while others only need the occasional beauty session. However, all pooches will benefit from being brushed regularly. Dental and nail care are also very important. These both have a much bigger impact on Fido’s health and well-being than many people realize.

Exercise/Stimulation

Some of our four-legged friends are just naturally more energetic than others. However, all of them need some form of activity and stimulation. Daily walks are a must, of course, but it’s also important to take time to play with Fido. Your pooch will also enjoy being able to explore different places.

Petproofing

Our canine buddies are very curious, and often try to chew or taste-test, well, everything.Fido could be in serious trouble if he were to ingest something toxic! Keep anything that could be a choking or poisoning hazard well out of paws’ reach!

Love

Dogs can suffer from stress, loneliness, and anxiety, just like people can. Spend lots of time with Fido, and pay attention to him every day! As your Virginia Beach, VA animal clinic, we’re dedicated to offering great care. Please contact us anytime!
