Does your kitty have some furniture pieces of her own? If so, that’s great. Cats do benefit from having some things made just for them. Of course, there are a few things for you to consider when shopping for Fluffy. A local Virginia Beach, VA veterinarian lists some of them in this article.
Purrpose
Different types of furniture serve different functions. Some are meant for helping kitties sharpen their claws. Others provide entertainment, offer napping spots, or give kitties a good vantage point of their domains. Cat towers are sort of an all-in-one, as they do all of these things. (Choosing beds is pretty easy, as there’s really only one rule of thumb there: the more napping spots Fluffy has to pick from, the better.)
Character
Cats are all unique, and they all have their own purrsonalities. A shy kitty may enjoy an enclosed piece, such as a pet condo, where she can hide when she gets scared. If you have a frisky feline that’s always dialed up to 11, you may want to get her a kitty exercise wheel. Is Fluffy constantly jumping on top of your fridge or bookcase? She may like a tall cat tower that provides her the height and vantage point she wants.
Age
Fluffy’s age is another thing to consider. Kittens are active and playful, and may like pieces that incorporate fun features like hanging toys, ladders, and catwalks. If your furry friend is in her golden years, she’s probably going to prefer a comfy piece that is low to the ground and easy for her to get on and off.
Space
Another thing to think about is how much room you have. If you have a small apartment, a window seat and hanging scratcher may be a better option than a full-size cat tower.
Multiple Cats
You’ll also want to factor in how many cats you have. Our feline friend can get quite competitive with each other. Fluffy and Mittens may squabble over resources such as food, lap space, and, of course, furniture. Make sure you have enough to go around. (Note: if you get a cat tower, pay attention to how your pets arrange themselves. The kitty that gets the top spot is most likely the boss cat.)
