Our feline friends are always cute, but they are never more adorable than when they’re hard at play. Kitties are extra hilarious when they are doing that pre-pounce butt wiggle, or batting their favorite catnip toys around. As it turns out, playing isn’t just fun for Fluffy. It’s also good for her! A Virginia Beach, VA vet lists some benefits of playing with your cat below.
Exercise
Pets need to stay active to stay fit and healthy, just like we do. Fluffy can burn a lot of calories in a good play session. Those workouts are great for her physically!
Routine
Our furry friends tend to do best when they are kept on pretty steady schedules. Adding a play session into Fluffy’s daily kitty routine will help keep her feeling happy and secure. (She’ll sort out her napping schedule herself.)
Stimulation
Have you ever watched Fluffy tracking that little red dot, or watching a wand toy bouncing around? Timing those perfect pounces requires concentration. That mental stimulation is great for your pet’s mind. Think of this as a kitty version of a card game or crossword.
Bonding
When you take time to hold a toy for your feline pal to chase, she’ll understand that you’re making an effort to entertain her and make her happy. Don’t underestimate how important that is!
Build Confidence
Do you have a scaredy cat? Playing can help Fluffy feel more confident. Nailing that tricky run/pounce/roll can really help a nervous kitty gain self-esteem.
Burn Zoomies
Our feline overlords tend to be quite feisty and energetic when they are little. Kittens are adorable … until they’re attacking your toes in the middle of the night. A fun play session will help your furry buddy burn off her zoomies, so she will (hopefully) sleep through the night.
Teach Proper Petiquette
If you have a kitten, playing with your little one will also help teach her good petiquette. You want little Fluffy to practice her lion skills on a toy, rather than on your fingers and toes!
It’s Cute!
Kitty playtime is of course always going to be fun for Fluffy, but it’s probably going to put a smile on your face as well. Time spent with pets is never wasted!
