Meet Our Team!
Megan Rockwell - I began working at Barker Animal Hospital as a vet assistant in December of 2015, just before our grand opening. Over time, I became receptionist and as of October 2017, office manager. I grew up in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach and graduated from Old Dominion University in May of 2015 with a bachelors in biology. I have a 5 year old miniature schnauzer named Scooter, who you may have seen featured in some of our ads! I love the summertime and enjoy any outdoor activity that involves the beach. I've always had a passion for working with animals and enjoy every day that I get to help care for your furry family members.
Our Client Service Coordinator:
Our Licensed Veterinary Technicians:
Melissa Day - I started with Barker Animal Hospital in February 2016 and I have worked in the veterinary medical field for 16 years. I obtained an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology in 2007. I absolutely love working with your furry babies and I am excited to meet all of our new clients. I am the proud mother of 1 human child, 2 dogs and one very large rabbit. My family has lived in Chesapeake for the last 25 years and we are grateful to call this home. Melissa is now Fear Free Certified!
Charlene Stewart - I started here at Barker Animal Hospital in September, 2017. I am a Graduate from Bel- Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, Colorado and a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the State of Virginia. I'm originally from Denver but I am very familiar with Hampton Roads from my time spent in the Navy as a Logistics Specialist. I live in Norfolk with my son Tyler, husband Andrew, our dog Walter, and two cats Trixie and Ralph. I have been working in the veterinary field since 2012 and I have plans to continue my education. I have a huge passion for veterinary medicine, specifically dentistry, and I plan to get my VTS in dentistry in the next 5 years. I do love all animals but I think I'd have to say that if I were to pick a favorite I'd have to say great white sharks but I work with companion animals so cats are my top pick out of water. Out of work I really enjoy playing my guitar, swimming, and eating at every mexican restaurant in Hampton Roads in search of the best carnitas taco and margarita.
Our Veterinary Assistants:
Stephanie Hunter -I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, and I also worked as a Kennel technician while I lived in Richmond. I moved back home to Suffolk, Virginia, after being offered the opportunity to work for Barker Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant, and I hope to further my goals in the field of veterinary medicine.
I have an 8 year old Pointer-mix named Joey, and he loves belly rubs, long walks, and his stuffed pizza toy. This is an entirely new experience for me, and you and your fur-babies make it an exciting time!
