Pet Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Oral Health is an area that is often overlooked by pet parents. It is one of the areas where at-home care makes the greatest impact on your pet’s health. Too often, as veterinarians, we only see a pet once an oral problem has reached the end stage, and there is little we can do to relieve the pet’s suffering short of removing all affected teeth.

Barker Animal Hospital Reception

Pet Dentistry

All dental cleanings performed at Barker Animal Hospital include pre-operative blood screening, balanced & monitored anesthesia, a complete anesthetized oral exam, full mouth digital x-rays, oral charting, hand or ultrasonic scaling of all teeth as appropriate, polishing, and fluoride treatment.

You will receive pre and post-dental photographs of your pet’s mouth, along with a clear oral care plan that you can follow with your pet at home.

Do you shy away from kisses and close cuddles with your furry friend due to bad breath?

Contrary to popular belief, foul breath isn’t something that all pet owners simply must learn to live with. In fact, it’s probably a sign that your animal companion is in need of dental care. Without adequate attention, your pet’s mouth can become a haven for dangerous bacteria. Over time, these bacteria can spread through the bloodstream and cause a number of other serious health problems. Left untreated, dental disease can even shorten your pet’s life. The good news is, with the right support, you can prevent all of this.

The professional dentistry services at Barker Animal Hospital are designed to provide all the care and attention needed for a lifetime of healthy smiles. We offer routine, preventative care to keep plaque and tartar at bay, as well as advanced treatment for existing oral conditions. Whether you’re stopping in for an annual dental exam and cleaning or your pet needs a tooth extracted, we’ve got you covered. All dental cleanings performed at Barker Animal Hospital include pre-operative blood screening, balanced & monitored anesthesia, a complete anesthetized oral exam, full mouth digital x-rays, oral charting, hand or ultrasonic scaling of all teeth as appropriate, polishing, and fluoride treatment. Some of the signs of dental disease in companion animals include, but are not limited to:

  • Bad breath
  • Excessive drooling
  • Dropping food
  • Sudden disinterest in chew toys
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swollen or painful face
  • Pawing at the mouth
  • Yellow, broken, loose,, or missing teeth
  • Gums that are red, swollen, or bleeding

Digital Dental Radiographs

Barker Animal Hospital is pleased to offer quality digital dental radiology services. This technologically advanced system uses a highly sensitive sensor and powerful image-processing software. As a result, lower doses of radiation are needed to create clear images with fewer retakes.

Because the vast majority of oral pathology lies below the gum line, full mouth radiographs are taken during every dental prophylaxis performed. Oral X-rays are the only way to properly diagnose oral disease and ensure complete extraction of diseased teeth is achieved.

In addition, with our system, image sharing is quick and easy, simplifying consultations for quality and efficiency in the diagnosis of difficult cases.

Year-Round Dental Care

In addition to our professional dental care, our staff is also dedicated to educating owners about proper care of their pet’s mouth to help prevent unnecessary pain and tooth loss. In between annual cleanings, it’s important that you’re brushing your companion’s teeth regularly. We recommend doing this at least three times a week, if not daily. Our experienced staff would be happy to offer demonstrations of the proper technique and give advice on various dental health products you can try.

You deserve to enjoy lots of close snuggles with your four-legged family member once again. The comprehensive dental services at Barker Animal Hospital can help get you there!
